Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.
