The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation around The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team could be designing a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
