The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, pits them against each other with songs about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator stated recently. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on October 29.
